OAKLAND INDEPENDENT LEAGUE
BASKETBALL RULES
*OIL follows NBA rules, with some adjustments
TIME
· 9 minute quarters with running clock (4 quarters)
· Clock stops the last 2 minutes of each half
· 2 minute halftime (1 if we are behind schedule)
· Teams are given 2 time outs in first half and 3 in second half.
· Overtime is 2:00 first and 1:00 additional
· We are not using a shot clock but can start for playoffs if a majority of captains request
FOULS
· Players foul out on the 6th foul
· Bonus begins on the 7th team foul of each half
· Double bonus on 10th team foul of each half
· If team only has 5 players and a player commits 6 fouls, a technical is assessed for that foul and any others, and player stays on
· 2 technical fouls is always disqualification
SPORTSMANSHIP
· Please promote a family atmosphere with attitude and language. Children and family members will be present.
· Fighting will not be tolerated. A 1-2 game suspension (minor altercation) or expulsion (punches thrown or other forms of violence) from league will result from a fight
· Any threats of gun violence or “going back to the trunk” will result in a suspension or expulsion depending on severity of incident.
· League staff has the right to suspend or expel any player for conduct detrimental to the league
· 4 total technical fouls in league play will result in a 1 game suspension. 6 technical fouls will result in another game suspension or expulsion from league.
· Respect referees and scorekeepers. Captain can ask questions to referees (not scorekeepers – leave them alone).
GENERAL TEAM & PLAYER RULES
· Players must play in 2 games during league play to be eligible for playoffs.
· $20 per player league fee must be paid by date set by league staff or players cannot play.
· After second game of league play, players may not switch teams without permission of league staff.
CHALK TALK
· Please stay for the Chalk Talk, a 3 minute inspiring message of hope given by local clergy and community leaders. Please listen and be respectful.
